Sir, —In your issue of yesterday you publish a Parliamentary return, stating that twenty-four estates absorbing It millions, have been acquired in the Waitaki electorate for closer settlement. Noav, Mr Editor, for the benefit of the readers of the Wairarapa Daily Times and in order to form a comparison, will you kindly submit a statement shoAving the number of estates purchased for closer settlement in the Masterton electorate during the last twenty years, giving acerage and amount of purchase money.—I am, etc.,
RIP VAN WINKLE. Masterton, Nov. sth, 1912. (Only one estato, namely Langdale, has been acquired in tho Masterton electorate. This was taken over by the Ctovcrnmcnt about tAvelvo years ago. Tho area was 9400 acres, and tho price £3 5s per acre.—Ed. W.D.T.)
