TOURIST TROPHY RACE, 1911. ~_ » — Undoubtedly tho -neatest test that any motor cycle has over undergone, and one that included "the most varied conditions, was tho Tourist Trophy Contest, hold on tho Isle of Man, England, in July, 15)11. The course was a circuit of 37 miles, covered five times, a total of 187 niiios. It was over tho ordinary roads of tho island, full of turns and kinks, with a surface much below the English standard. Besides numerous ordinary grades, Snaofeli Mountain, a climb of four miles, with a corresponding descent, was surmounted on each circuit. For this great contest fifty-nino machines outored tho best that Europe could produce, and in whose constuction many mouths wero consumed; and of these only twonty-oight survivod, eloquent evidence of tho immense severity of the task. Among the starter s wero five "Indians," and not only did every one of the five finish, but the "Indian" captured the first three places. Such a performance is unprecedented, and tho most wonderful showing ever made by any motor cyclo. To cover this long course without a falter at tho tremendous speed necessary for success; to survivo tho continuous strain of rough roads and hard driving without a single mechanical failure; to climb the miles of steep mountain roads without a sign of burning out, are demonstrations of efficiency, endurance and mechanical porfnotion that have never been equalled, and wil) never bo surpassed. Mr J. 0. Ewington, of Mastorton, lias secured tho Wairarapa agency of tho "Indian."*

'Hie microbe moaned and wagged his tail, Threw up his eyes and sighed— " If I should try to kill and fail, I'm down for suicide." fie bit a larynx savagely, But Woods' Great Peppermint Cure Came down and killed him instantly, And saved the patient sure. ::
