PIGEON CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT FROM INVERGARSILL
Yesterday nine birds, representing six lofts of the Masterton HomingPigeon Club were liberated at Invercargili at daybreak; and five of them had regained their lofts by ten o'clock this morning. The distance of 550 miles airline is the longest yet attempted by the Club, aud the result is very gratifying to the. members, and, in fact, compares favourably with tlie best performances recorded by any club in the Dominion. The actual flying time of the winning bird (Mr W. Hoar's Beetemall) was about twenty hours, after deducting the night allowance. There is very little difference between the the first five birds, but the times on the clocks indicate that the winning bird had a small lead of about two and minutes, with the others bunched. M The result quite establishes the claim of the local Club to be classed amongst tho leading Homing Clubs in tho Dominion. The following aro tho details : - Mr W. Hoar's Beetemall . . 1 Mr W. Drake's Little Mary .. 3 Mr A. Miller's Nerissa . . 3 Mr F. B. Rosson's Stepaway 4 Mr J. Dixon's Timothy . . 5 The Auckland interval race, which eventuates shortly, will complete the old bird races for this season.
