PEOPLE'S PARK FETE DAY
A most attractive programme has been prepared for the evening of the fete day—Thursday, 2nd February— which will begin with a monster torchlight procession starting from the Borough Council Chambers at 7.30 o'clock, reaching the Park at eight o'clock. Fire Brigades, Fire Police, Friendly Societies, Bands, Ambulance and others will take part in it. The musical part which will start first, will be a rare treat, under the capable management of Mr G. O. Branson, the Orchestral Society and Savage Club, providing enjoyable items. At 8.30 one of the good old Maori hakas aud war dances will be performed by the Maoris, under the leadership of Chieftain Te Tau. Then comes the ever-welcome moving picture entertainment by Thompson-Payne proprietary, which will provide amusement for all sorts and conditions of men, women aud children. The Y.M.U.A. will put on a great basketball competition, which will be of very great interest, and this will be followed by bayonet exercises and grand assault-at-arms by the volunteers. A first-rate display of fireworks . and bombardment of Port Arthur by two Dreadnoughts, captained by Man-o'-warsman George Eersey, of H.M.S. Powerful, combined with the illuminated boats on the lake and the general illumination of the grounds, promises one of the greatest spectacular events ever shown in the Wairarapa.
