ENTERTAINMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

The popularity of a good moving picture entertainment was well exemplified at the Foresters' Hall last eveuing, wheu the current programme was again presented to a crowded house. There are several "star" pictures in the bill-of-fare, the chief oue being "Examination Day," a clever American Hiograpli Company comedy-drama. The story deals with some incidents in the life of a school-teacher, who is dismissed on account of a blackboard caricature of a visiting inspector, the real culprit, however, being one of the scholars. The latter, ou finding to what a serious end his joke had led, hastens to make amends, aud adopts the novel plan of organising a revolution among the scholars against the uew teacher. So successful is the method adopted that the new master informs tiie school committee that he cannot control the pupils, and desires to resign. A deputation also wait on the oommittee aud ask that the old teacher be re instated, the circumstances leading to his dismissal being explained by the scholars. The request Is granted amid a scene of excitement, aud the old pedagogue is led back in triumph to the school. Another picture which found much favour was "Willie." a story dealing with a dude's adventures among the cowboys' of the Wild West, where he has gono to be made a man of. "Mrs Rivingtou's Pride" is a deligTitful drama, with a happy ending. "With Bridges Burned" showed how a villain and his nefarious scheme were defeated. The scenes are a splendid lot, and iv the "Basilica of St. Mark's" a capital view of the historical Bridge of Sighs is obtained. Of an excellent series of comics "Burglars Expected," and "An Advertisement Answered," were perhaps the best. The programme will be repeated for the last time to-night. The programme to-morrow evening will include a splendid sensational drama, "Lieutenant Rose aud the Chinese Pirates,"
