ARE WE TO EXPECT MORE BURDENS ?

(to the editor.!

Sir. —I would not trespass ou your valuable space with this questiou if au answer iv the negative, would not be a relief for every elector. As far as can be gathered from Mr A. W. Hogg's speeches, he has not told us to expect more burdens or their removal, or whether he thinks the energies of the nation will remain bound by unworkable laws or not. Present legislation must be a prime cause ot the decided trend to insanity. It would be a pleasure for the majority to become workers, but some must provide wages, education, etc., aud except the present stream of rates and taxes flowing from the district be checked, little but debts will be left in the Borough. Government valuation of land, placen it beyond the reach of many poor, while increasing taxation is making food p.nd clothing more costly luxuries thau th'.\v should bo. the "fat men" to bear the burdens of the Dominion (if they waited for them) would be forcing them into the place of tlie Messiah. As love is the source of ali production and wealth, it would be giving the monopoly of the country to a few, and prevent the nationalisation of benevolence. As it would take the population of the Dominion to work up this electorate to the I'ruit of productiveness, it is our duty to unite as a brotherhood in removing all confusing politics from the Statute Book, and all burdens from the people, to enable them to make the best of themselves and their environment. We must surely kuow our doom if we remain idle spectators cf forces destroying Australasia. —I am, etc.,

RICHARD WILLIAMS. (Our correspondent's "point" is not quite clear.—Ed. W.D.T. )
