Tho Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association's Championship Meeting, which was being held in Mastertou under the auspices of the Mastertou Teunis Club, was brought to a conclusiou yesterday. It was one of the most successful gatherings that have beeu held in the Dominion, visiting players and spectators alike bestowing the highest praise upou the officials, and particularly the capable honorary secretary (Mr A. K. Sclanders) for the manner in winch they had controlled such au important function. The courts were iv excellent order, and the tenuis generally was very good, aud in regard to the crack players, brilliant. Never has better tennis been seeu in Mastertou, aud as far as the handicap events were eoucemed those who framed the haudicaps are to be congratulated upou the way in which they performed their duties. Altogether it was a delightful meeting that will long remain green in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to be present. The following are the cooucludiug events, which were decided after we went to press yesterday.

MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES (present champion :Mr R N. X, Swanston, Wellington). Best of three advautage sets, winner to hold Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association's Challenge Cnn aud to receive trophy value £2 2s; runner-up trophy value 153. Final.

H. A. Parker, New South Wales, beat G. Ollivier, Christchurch, 6—2, 6—l.

Parker proved himself to possess too much skill for tha Cautab, who could do nothing with those magnificent line hits, smashes, placing and net drops. Ollivier, however, got in some very clever work at times.

THE CHAMPIONS' CAREER

The following is a brief resume of H. A. Parker's career as a lawu tennis player:—

H. A. Parker wai born in Chrisi;- ---• church on May 6th, 18To. He first took up the game at Wanganui College at the age of twelve. He joined the Thorndou Club in 18H3, being beaten that year in the final for the Club championship by R. Gore Iv 1894, at the New Zealand Championship Meeting, he got iuto the final of the championship singles, defeating F. Wilding, H. Gore and A. Borrows, and being beaten in the fiual.by J. R. Hoopar of Auckland. Iv 1895 he accounted for the N. Z. championship, turning the tables on J. R. Hoopsr. Iv the following year J. M. Marshall beat him in the ssmi-fiual at the N.Z. Champiouship meeting at Nelson, while in 18H7 Hoopsr defeated Parker for the New Zaalaud championship. C. 0. Cox beat Parker at the 1898 championship meeting in the second rouud. The Auckland championship that year, however, fell to Parker, he defeating Hooper. Parker was a member of the New Zealand team which visited New South Wales in 1903 aud 1904. He wou the Auckland championship in 1900 and 1901. He did not attend the N.Z. Championship Meeting in 1899, bat at the meeting at Christchundi next year he played a great game in the semi-final against A. W. Dunlop, a crack Victorian player, b9ing beaten after four hard sets, the scores being 4—6, 6—-4, 6—o, 7—5. He won the doubles with Peacock, the pair beating, among others, Dunlop and Diddams, after a great five-set match, the scores baiug 6--1, o-O, B—lo, 9—7. 6—4. Iv 1901 he was in England, where he won numerous trophies and considerably improved his play. On returning to New Zeaalnd in 1903 he won the New Zealand championship without losing a set, and also won the combined doubles with Miss Nunrelley. Iv 1903 he again won the New Zealand championship, defeating Cox, Laishley and Peacock. He also wou the championship doubles with Miss Nuunelley. After winning the championship singles at Waipawa and New Plymouth and the Thorndon Club's champiouship he went further afield and brought back to New Zealand the championship of South Australia aud Tasmania. Of recent years he has performed brilliantly, his triumphs including three New Zealand Championships. At Danuevirke last week he won the singles championship.

This was a magnificent game, iv which Cox did capital work, reminiscent of the days when lie wa3 a champion of champions. Aitken, too, played splendidly, and ably seconded his partner's efforts. Tha work of the winners was superb, and though Parker aud Brown brought all their skill to bear, they could not outplay the ex-Cauterbury champions."

COMBINED CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES (present champions: Miss K. M Nunuelly and H. W. Brown). Best of three advantage sets. Trophies value £1 Is each.

Miss Nuuuelly displayed considerable ability at teunis from an early age, winning several prizes at tournaments iv Euglaud before she was fifteen years of age. In 1891 she came iuto prominence by winning the haudicap singles at Brighton. She then wou live prizes at the South of England meeting field at Eastbourne.' In 1892 she further distinguished herself by winning at Leicester, Nottingham, Northampton, Liverpool aud Wellingborough. She won the opeu singles at Nottingham iv 1893, aud practically carried all before her at Blackheatti and Beckenham. Her best performances iv England were put up in 1894, when she won the opeu and handicap singles at Nottingham, defeating two noted players—viz., Miss Jackson aud Mrs Hillyard. Miss Nuuuelly first took part in a New Zealaud championship touruameut at Wellington in 1895, when she won the singles easily, and the doubles with Miss Trimuell. Ou no less than thirteen occasions has Miss Nuuuelly wou the championship of New Zealand, and thrice this seasou has she defeated Miss Traver3, holder of the title at present. Miss Nunuelly visited Sydney in 1890, and carried all before her. iv tho ladies' haudicap singles she performed the greatest of her many great feats on tennis courts iv various parts of the Old and New World. On the final she, owing beat Miss Lee, who received 15, scoring 17 games to 10----thus winning from au almost impossible position. She won the ladies' all-comers' singles, beating the pick of the players of Australia, and held a valuable challenge shield for a year. With H. A. Parker she got through he combined doubles, but the New Zealand pair were beaten in the dial lenge round by Colquhoun aud Miss Shaw. In the ladies' all-comers' doubles Misses Nuuuelly and Woolnough were beatou by Misses Howitt aud Shaw, the chuinpiou pair of Victoria. Miss Nuuuelly visited Sydney in 1897 to defsnd her title of champion of New South Wales, but was defeated by Miss Howitt, champion of Victoria, G-3, 3—6. 6—4. She wou the doubles championship with Miss Howitt, beating Misses Dransfield (New South Wales) and Parr (South Australia). Of recent year she has kept up her excellent reputation as a brilliant exponent of the game of tenuis. At Marlborough and Daunevirke this season she defeated Miss Travers, New Zealaud champion.
