The acceptances for the Doncaster Haudicap aud Sydney Cup have just come to baud. Bobrikoff has been paid up for in the former raco, and should he be fit aud well on Saturday week, he may be relied upon to make a great race over the mile course, despite bis big burdeu of '.UU. Other New Zealauders still romaiuiug in the same race are Korlie 8.7, Motoa 8.2, Ngauruhoe ?.(>, aud Suovvfoot 7.0. Iv tne Svduey Oup, Downfall, 8.1, stands bis grcuud, as also do Kerlie 8.0, aud Nobel 7.0. Tbe Wellington Magistrate will give bis decisiou ou Friday uext iv oouneetiou with the charge agaiust two officials of the Wellington Pouy Club, Messrs. Cvunuiiug* and Williams, for refusing to leave the course at Treutbani duriug tho progress of the W.K.C. summer meeting. Tribulation, who is credited with great galloping powers, but hasu't yet proved his worth, is entered iv the juvenile events at the Tiiuhereuikau Easter fixture. The Canterbury Jockey Club have received capital acceptances for the two big handicaps to be decided at their autumu meetiug. The acceptances for the Easter Haudicap total 21 agaiust 17 of twelve mouths ago, while the Great Autumu Haudicap'has IU acceptors, or three more thau last season, so there is every promis3 of a big hold faciug the starter. The geueral eutries number 231 agaiust 107 for tbe. club's last autumu gathering—an increase of Gi — uearly every eveut showing a substantial increase, while after payiug first forfeits for the Champagne aud Challenge Stakes tbe lists contain the names of most of the best performers iv New Zealaud. The Challenge Stakes iv particular should prove very attractive to race-goers, as Armlet aud the crack two-year-old Formby, will agaiu measure strides, aud the latter will thus have a chauce of aveugiug bis defeat by a head by Meuschikotr's daughter iv the Jacksou Stakes at Wangauui. The case against Barns, a bookmaker, aud his clerk, Coakley, the former of whom was charged with theft as a result ot failing to pay out after the Wanganui Stakes, was coucluded at the Wauganui Magistrate's Court ou Monday morning. In convicting accused, tbe Magistrate stated that Barns had attracted a very considerable

amount of business by giving better odds than the other bookmakers present, aud it would appear that lie had not had auy intention of paying his debts to those who had- betted with him. Mr Kerr weut further, and added that he believed he was warranted iv saying that Barns did not even intend to refund the money deposited with him. or else be would never have parted with the £40 which he gave to Coaicloy to hold for him. As to Coakley. he must have kuown what Barns' position was, and in taking away tho £40 ho aided Barns to defraud the public. Barns was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, aud Coakley to oue mouth in the New Plymouth Gaol. Leave to appeal was granted, security beiug fixed at a bond of £50 aud two sureties of £25, or ouo of £50, iv each case.

Indian advices mention that Soultliue .and Taugaroa are to be sent to England to race.

Says a Sydney vvritor:—lt will bo of interest to those who fancy Bobrikoff in the Doucaster Plaudicap to know that he is now stretching out in much better style than shortly after his arrival at Raudwick aud wheu he fairly gets ou his legs there is no doubt as to his pace. That is where the trouble may lie, however, as he starts off in a rather scratchy fashiou. Bobrikoff's stable companion Downfall is moving with great freedom aud the change of scone is evidently agreeing with him.
