The spring meeting of the Victoria Racing Club opened to-day in fine and delightfully cool weather. Flemington was looking at its best. There •was a large aud fashionable attendance. Results: —

Maiden Plate, one mile.—E. IS. D. Clarke's oh c Barm, 3yrs, 7.13 I; J. Wilson, juur's, br c Moruga,3yrs, 7.13, 2; R. Crawford's b c Fiaviau, Byrs, 7.13, 3. Won by half a length, threequarters of a length between second aud third. Time, lmin Msec.

Also started—Habel, Indiscreet, Rigadoou, Rolling Stone, Rheims, Gun Play, Flameu, Tauami, Procue, Carcauet, Keru, Teriuga, Baza. Gun Play was the first to show out, but entering the course proper Desert Rose drew clear of the field, and was never afterwards headed, winning by a length aud a quarter, with a length separating second aud third. Also started—Mala, Mauana, Mutilator, Sir Edwin, 8.10: Lady San, and Byplay, 8.5. From a good start Manana and Prince Foote were smartest to begin. Lord Foote, however, quickly took up the running, and led by twelve lengths from Mauaua, Dauilo aud Prince Foote for half a mile. Coming into the straight, Prince Foote and Danilo overhauled the pacemaker, and the A.J.-O; Derby winner dashed away from Danilo and fairly romped home by six lengths. There was a keen set-to for second a place, Danilo beating Lord Foote by head only. The others finished in the following order—Lady San, Byplay, Mutilator, Sir Edwin, Mala and Manana. Time, 2miu 37sec.

Melbourne ScaKes, a sweepstake of 20 soys each, with 1000 soys added. Weight-for-age. One mile aud a quarter. —"M. Gordon's" b or br Ii Alawa, 4yrs, 9.0, 1; P. and VV. Also started —Kuox, Pose Town, Blue Book, aud Gaby, V>.4; Peudil, Hymau, Lord Nolan, 9.0; Artillerio aud Nushka, S.J). Hymau aud Golden Slipper made most of the running, Alawa always being handy. Trafalgar, Alawa aud Golden Slipper swung round the home turn together, aud after a good race between the first two Alawa won by a length aud a half, with Golden Slipper six lengths further off. Coburg Stakes, one mile. —W. Ellis's eh h Kerlie, 4yrs, 8.1, 1; J. F. Klrby's blk g Malmsey, 4yrs, 7.11, 2; Cutteu aud Nelson's br h Sou of a Guv, 4yre, 8.11, 3. Fifteen others started. Won by three lengths, with two between second aud third. Time, lmiu 40>£sec.
