SPECIAL MEETING.

A special meeting of the Land Board was held at the District Laud aud

Survey Office on Thursday, wheu there were preseut: Mr James Mackenzie, of Crowu Lauds (iv the aud Messrs A. Reese, Jos. ancl O. J. Oautou. Mr Johu Byers, lessee of sectiou 6, Block VI., Tiffin,* Oarriugton Settlemeut. applied to be allowed to surrender his interest iv the section.—lt was resolved to recommend the request in the following terms: That the sectiou be re-ottered with all reasonable dispatch; that Mr Byers' deposit be not returned iv the meantime; when the new deposit is paid, any balauce of his deposit uot exhausted to be rofuuded; or if he cau transfer the section to an eligible applicant, the Board would recommeud the transfer for the approval of the Miuister. It was resolved to appoint Mr Luuduis as appraiser to value the fee simple of Section 70, Mauuuui Vil'age Settlement.

The following application was approved :—Thos. Sowersby, for renewable lease for thirty-three years of Sectiou 14, Block VIL, Rangataua township; area, Oa. Jr. 004 p. ; auuual rental, £2. It was resolved to inform Mr Robert ■I'M'Cnlloch that there is no power to approve his application for Sections 3 and o. Bluck X., Raugataua Village Settlement, as he is barred from selecting it, beiug the holder already of fifty acres of freehold laud. With reference to Mr A. Joues' application to transfer Sectiou 6a, Block 11., Mount Cerberus, to Mr T. A. Yeouiau, which was provisionally approved by the Board on April Ist, a further commuuicatiou was received, aud it was resolved to postpone for a further report from the Crown Lauds Ranger, with power for the Commissioner to act.

The Crown Lauds Ranger reported that Mr Johu M'Kay, the selector of Sectiou 12. Block 111.. Pnketoi, was residing ou his freehold, Sectiou 1, Block VII., Puketoi. oue aud a-half miles distant.—lt was resolved to accept such residence as sufficient.

Mrs Mary Kearius applied for permission to dedicate seventeen perches of Section 10. Block XIV., Ohiuewairua. as a public road. —It was resolved to leave the matter iv the hands of the Commissioner.

The Commissioner reported that Mr .A. Bishop had declined to accept

a lease of part Sectiou 21, Block 11., Tiffiu, Carrmgtou Settlement. Mr Thomas Moorcock, lessee of the other portion of the section, wrote applying to have tho piece retused by Mr Bisiiop re-added to Ins section.—lt was decided to obtaiu a report from the Crowu Lauds Ranger as to whether the request should be complied with.
