The monthly meeting of the Council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs G. O. Suiiiui"i , ell (chairman), .')'. B. Moodie, V. Jv Donald, IC. E. Chamberlain, H. Wynu-Williams, A. Henderson and W. B. Ohenuells.

Apologies for absence were received from Messrs 1,1.I ,1 . W. Carey, C. E. Dauiell, J. C. Ewington and I , ]. It. Waddington.

The, resignation wis accepted with regret, and it was decided to pla.ee on record the Chamber's appreciation of Mr Donald's services.

Mr Gheunells said that Mr Donald was the most useful member of the Council, and to be without; his services would be a great loss. He was full of initiative, and always had some useful business for the Chamber to interest itself in.

On the motion of the. Chairman, the vacancy on the Council was filled by •iio appointment of Mr V. E. Donald, who thanked the meeting for the honour conferred on him.

With reference to the northern approach, it was reported that the two local bodies were still conferring on the matter. No action was taken.

Mr Donald wrote staling that he would be in Hydney at the time of the Congress of Chambers of Commerce in rho British Empire, ami would be pleased to represent. New Zealand, or at least the Masterton portion of it, thereat.

Mr ChenneJls considered that Mr Donald was well fitted to act as one of New Zealand's delegates at the Congress, and the Chamber resolved to write to the secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce mentioning Mr Donald's name for consideration when .New Zealand's delegates were being appointed.

The Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce wrote informing the Chamber that it was proposed to hold a, conference of Chambers of Commerce between Palmerston, Masterton and Feilding on Tuesday, May Uth, at Palmerstou North, for the purpose of discussing general ra.ilway facilities between the East and West Coasts, more especially in connection with the Main Trunk service, as it affects the districts referred to.

It was resolved to ask Mr J. 13. Cruickshank to act. as the Chamber's delegate to the conference.
