FIRE IN A NEWSPAPER OFFICE.

HEAVY DAMAGE CAUSED

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The jobbing and printing departments of the Taranaki Herald were destroyed by fire at one o'clock this morning. The literary aud linotype department.-; escaped, being in a brick building, with steel shutters over the windows and doors. It is impossible to estimate the damage at present. The building was; insured for £('..10, aud the total loss on machinery and plant was £17.10. It is feared that the damage is irreparable. s origin of the; outbreak is a aßwrory. The premises were left, apparently safe at J 1 20 p.m. by thepub- ' Jisher of the weekly paper. A slight outbreak occurred early on Wednesday moruiug, but was extinguished before the lire had auv hold. The paper will be published as usnal.
