SHIP OF MYSTERY.

BRITAIN'S NEW (JRUISER TO SURPRISE THE WORLD.

LONDON, February 20th. A few elemeutary particulars have been made public from time to time eouceruiug the armoured cruiser Indefatigable, which i≤ to be started forthwith in Devonport dockyard. Iv the maiu. however, these statements have beeu coutiued to the annouueemeut that tlio new warship will be au improved Invincible, aud to more or loss speculative tables of displacement, dimensions, aud gnus. The Indefatigable will be something more than an improved Invincible. She will be totally unlike auy other warship ever yet put afloat for the British Navy.

Among her original features may bs mentioned tne fact that for motive power will be developed by internal combustion engines, thus doing away with funnels aud boilers, and coal bunkers.

Her armament will, in common with that of the Vanguard, now building at Portsmouth, cousist of the much-talked-of new i:j..")-iuch guns, throwing projectiles 12501bs in weight at a muzzle velocity of over 3000 footseconds.

It has been found necessary to lengthen the slip on which the Collingwood was built in order to receive the keel of this leviathan. When it is stated that the Colliugwood is uoOft long, some idea of the proportions of the Indefatigable may be arrived at. She is expecred to take the water in October next.
