THE NAPIER SUICIDE.

NAPiER, Last Night
An iuquest was held this morning, before Mr H. W. Brabant, Coroner, on the late Claudius Walter Cato, who died yesterday as the result of a revolver shot. Constable Hodgson stated that he searched the clothing of deceased, and found two promissory notes, a telegram, and a memo, relating to money matters. The telegram was signed '"Cooks," Auckland, and stated, "Bank wires your cheque not provided for reply."
The jury returned the following verdict: ''That deceased died from the effects of a bullet wound, which wound had traversed deceased's brain and was iuflicttv.l by himself."
The deceased was the first dux of the Napier Boys' High School in 1877, and held the same position in each of the two following years. Mr Cato's library of cricket literature was extremely complete.
