Tho werk of installing the electric light is taking longer than was anticipated. The poles are nearly all in position, and the power-house practically completed ; but the machinery is not all to hand yet. It will probably bo a mouth yet before the works will be in ruuniug order. Sharp frosts were experienced here on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The following gentlemen have definitely decided to stand for the Borough Council: —Messrs Wm. Wilson, coachbuilder; P. Pike, draper; J. J. Mead, builder; J. Carter, farmer; Thompson, accountant; W. Ker shaw, baker. There are several others contemplating standing. A meeting of settlers is to be held in the Newman Hall next Thursday to consider the proposal to erect a cheese factory.
