The final debato of the year took place ou Saturday night. The chair was taken by Mr P. L. Hollings (President; of the V.M.C.A.), and Mr Grauville Hunt, of Wellington, acted as judgp of the debate. The subject was : "Should New Zealand adopt compulsory military training?" The debaters were spurred on by a splendid attendance, which was greatly interested in the discussion. In the affirmative were Messrs Cole, Rigg, Burgess and Dauiell, and in the negative, Messrs Hebeuton, A. Rollings, Flanagan and Kemp. After considerable discussion the judge awarded the victory to the affirmative. Mr Hunt's criticisms were welcomed by the debaters, who should profiu by tiie thoroughness of his judgment. The Chairman gave expression to a few remarks ou the art of speaking correctly, and of being able to think rapidly and put the thoughts into speech. He noted the considerable improvement in the debating powers of members, which was indicative of their desire to improve. In conclusion he moved a vote of thanks to Mr Hunt, for his able services, and this was carried enthusiastically.
