Mrs McGregor, of "auch-
more."
Ifc is with deep regret we ( Wanganui Chronicle) have to record the death of Mrs McGregor, of "Auchmore," who passed away on Saturday, at the ripe old age of ninety-one years. The deceased lady, who was one of the oldest settlers in the district, was revered by a very large circle of friends, and there will be a a very widespread feeling of regret when the news of her death is known. Over fifty years ago she arrived in Waugauui with her husband, the late Mr Alexander McGregor, and took up her residence in the Matarawa Valley, where she and her husband were the pioneers. She underwent all the hardships inseparable from colonial life in those early days, and many there were who blessed her for her kind hospitality. She was a devont Ohnstiau woman, who gave her religion practical application, and she and her family were among the mainstays of the Presbyterian Church. Her name Avas known throughout the whole district, and there were coustautly visitors at "Auchmore" glad to have a chat with the fine old lady. On the occasion of her ninetieth birthday, there was a great gathering of the clan to join in the celebration, over seventy-three direct descendants being present, a number goiug from Wairarapa in order to be present. Mrs McGregor was then in splendid health, which continued till a short time ago, when she began to ail. The illness became serious last week, and the deceased did not rally. At St. Paul's Church, Wanganui, on Sunday, reference was made to the deceased's death, the hymns being specially appropriate, while the. organist played as an offertory in the morning, '' Sleep on, Beloved."
