THE HARTNETT MILKING MACHINE.

At the Masterton Show, next week, the famous Hartnetf milking , machine will be on exhibition.

The term (six months) for which

the "Hartnett" milking , machines "were installed on exhaustive trial at the Dookie College has recently expired. The machines have been under the, most stringent supervision during the whole of that period, and Mr Crowe, the Government Chief Dairy Expert, was deputed to make the final examination and to report- to the Council of Agricultural Education. His report was highly satisfactory, as will be noted from the following extract from the "Age":—About six months ago the Council of Agricultural Education had a Hartnett patent milking machine installed at the Dookie Agricultural College, with a view to its purchase, on condition that the machine proved to be equal to any other milking machine on the market. The probationary period mis expired, and the Chief Dairy Inspector, Mr R. Crowe, lias favourably reported upon the invention. Ho states that ho has checked the working of the machine, and found it to be simple and positive in its action. The cows, "without exception, took to it kindly, and their udders and teats were in perfect condition after its use. Most of the cows had short teats, and if it had not been for the machine Mr Crowe would have suggested that these animals be disposed of on account of the difficulty of milking them by hand. With the machine,, however, there was no difficulty. The mac!line was as good as the best on the market, and had some features not possessed by others. In view of this report, the Council of Agricultural Education has decided to buy the machine.

Messrs C. Dahl and Co., Palmerston North, are the sole agents for the machine.
