" THE KELLY GANG."
Monday Evening Next.
The Lyttelton Times speaking of a recent performance of the fascinating Australian bushrauging romance "The Kelly Gang" which MacMahon's Drarmtic Company will present to a Masterton audience at the Town Hall on Monday evening next, said : " The largest house of the season assembled at the Theatre Royal last night to witness the first production of "The Kelly Gan?." Long before eight o'clock would-be patrons were being turned away in hundreds, and once more the city inspector stepped in and stopped the sale of tickets to all parts of the large auditorium. The scene when the mail coach was stuck up and oight horses figured in a lively act upon the stage at one time is as effective as the most hypocritical realist could demand. Other particularly good " sets" are those depicting the racecourse at Euroa, and the burning of the hotel at Glenrowan. The drama has nothing of unwholesome sensationalism about it, for outside its idealisation of an unfortunate series of episodes it is commendably full of almost primitive morality. The excellence of the production was reflected in the magnificence of the acting of the large cast of characters." Tho eight horses and coach used in the local production are being supplied by Mr T. Clancy. It is announced that the box plan is on view at Miss Rive's, where seats may be reserved without extra booking fees.
