CURED BY CUTICURA.

Awful Suffering From a Terrible Humour.

Baby's Face a Solid Sore.

" My baby's face was a mass of sores. The doctor called it eczema, but his treatment did no good, as the child was getting worse, the disease eating the flesh away from his nose, and spreading lo his body. Neighbors said it was the worse case they had ever seen. His suffering was terrible, and lie would scratch and tear away the flesh. AYe then used the Cuticura Remedies, one set curing him completely, and healing his face without scar or blemish. —Wm. Cridland, 35 Winchester St, Pentonville Rd., N. London, Eng." 23

street extensions, connectiiig George and Villa-streets, South-road extension, Cricket and Club-streets, Columba-road and Kuri-puni-lane. This would entail approximately two and a-quarter miles of pipes, and the previous proposal of* tho Works Committee to procure one mile of 4inch and one mile of 3inch cast-iron pipes, with necessary hydrants, valves and specials, seems a wise one. Pipos in tho colony have advanced from £8 10s, six months ago, to £10 and upwards to-day, and I believe tho peak has not been reached, but at Home tho increase in' prices, judging by makers' lists, has not been so great. However, as tho Council has missed tho opportunity of obtaining them at a low price. It is questionable which is the best course to pursue in regard to purchasing. I am of the opinion that pipes will keep on rising for soveral months, and so far there is no sign of the peak of the iron market having been reached. If, however, you desire lo move at once, an order could be placed for 75 tons of 3 and -1 inch pipes and the necessary fittings. Vivian-street, £150: This road has for some years been in a deplorable condition, and it would be wise to call tenders at once for forming and gravelling the same. Schedule C.—Ngaurnatawa-road, £75: Levels will be taken and a contract prepared for this work forthwith. Columba-road, £150: This amount will provide for the formation from Worksop road to Makora Creek. The remaining portion will be better reserved till Herbertstreet is being dealt with. Plans and specifications will be prepared forthwith. Yorke-street, £138: This work will be dealt- with as soon as the necessary transactions are complete re widening of same. Junction-road, £150: The survey of this road is in hand, and tenders will be called

for at once. Widening Cross-street : Surveys have already been made for this work, which should be carried out forthwith. Hessey-street extension, £250 : The arrangement made with the Presbyterian Trustees should be executed at once, and tenders called for the work to be done on this road. Park and Baths, £500: A survey is in hand for excavating ornamental water and baths, and tenders can be called for this work and river protection shortly. Gasworks, £1000 : This loan includes purchase and erection of gasholder, £2300 ; steam pump for tar ammoniacal liquor and water, £50; 2\ miles of mains, £1000; shifting old purifiers, £150: poll, interest and contingencies, £500. The amount set down (£2300) will provide for a 2 lift Gadd and Mason's spiral guided holder, set in concrete tank and erected, the capacity of which would be about 80,000 cubic feet ; this with the two present holders, should give ample accommodation for many years to come. The providing of a steam pump will remove a long felt want in the lifting of tar and ammoniacal liquor; whilst the shifting of the two present small purifiers will give further improvements in the present purifying plant, and permit of their present site being used for other purposes. The 2\ miles of mains extensions will provide for extending the gas to most of the streets where reticulation is likely to be remunerative. The contingent amount of loan should be used for converting the old retort house and exhauster room into coal stores, if they are sub-divided into compartments an accurate check could be kept of the amount of coal carbonised from time to time. The streets demanding extensions are—Cornwall-street, Chapel-street (near Rigg's), Upper Plain-road, George and Villa streets, Albert-street, Wrigley-street, Bannister, Keaton and Church-streets, Bunny'sroad, Sussex-street, Dixon-street, Ross-street, High-street, Gray and Olive-streets, Queenstreet (from Hallensteins' to Cross street). The previous recommendation was to secure 11 tons of Gin. mains, 15 tons of -lin. mains, and 60 tons of 3in. mains, a total of 86 tons, which if procured with the water mains would give you a better chance of obtaining at a lower rate than if bought in two lots.

General: In respect to the street widening and extensions generally, f would strongly advise the Council to give this work precedence of all others. In most of the streets to be dealt with the Council knows the views of the parties interested. If the parties are willing proper agreements should be entered into at once, but where they are not agreeable I should advise that the land proposed to be acquired be taken under the Public Works Act, before a large expenditure of loan moaey take place. This would apply to Wrigley-street extension, Cross-street widening, Hessey-street extension, Makora-road, Kuripuni-street, Yorkstreet. In most of these cases the surveys have already been made, and the necessary steps to acquire could be taken at once.
