TRUST LANDS TRUST.

Annual Meeting.

The annual statutory meeting of voters of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held in the Town Hall, last evening. Mr C. E. Daniell (chairman) presided, and there were also present: Messrs T. B. Michell, T. Wagg, E. Feist (Trustees), A. H. Hathaway (Secretary), J. 0. Ewington, D. A. Morton, W. 11. Jackson, G. Phillips (custodian of hall), and two members of the Fire Police. The annual report (which has already been circulated) was taken as read. The financial statement (which has yet to be audited) was read by the Secretary. The Chairman deprecated the lack of interest in Trust affairs and the small attendance of voters, and formally moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. He remarked that the voters present, other than Trustees, were probably quite. as conversant with Trust matters as the Trustees themselves, and there was no need for him to go into details. ■Mr Feist seconded the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and the motion was carried. Mr Jackson raised a question in reference to the proposed alteration to the Trust Empowering Bill of 1905, dealing with borrowing powers, and he was satisfied with the Chairman's assurance that no new matter would be included in the proposed Bill, which was of a purely technical character. He expressed the opinion that the Bill should be framed to give wider power than borrowing, and include a proposal to hand over the Town Hall to the Borough Council. The Chairman replied that this opened up a big question, and he had never considered that phase of the administration of the Hall. The Trustees were appointed to manage Trust property, and not give it away in the manner suggested. The Trustees were not justified in proposing to divest themselves of their trust. The meeting, which lasted twenty minutes, closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
