Masterton B. v. Greytown I
[by "the bowler."] This senior championship match was concluded on Saturday last, and resulted in a win for Masterton by the narrow margin of 7 runs. The winners, in their second innings, made only 30 runs, none of the batsmen reaching double figures. Grey--1 town then went in with only 63 runs to make to win, but were all dismissed for 55 runs— £fe W. Feast 19, Workman 14, and Tate 10, not out, being the chief contributors. Groytown.—Bannin, 5 for 9 ; Workman, 1 for 14; Udy, 1 for 6. I must congratulate the Masterton juniors on their initial win. Their batting has, however, been weak, and it is solely due to their bowlers that they managed to score a win against their opponents. Not a single player of the Masterton team reached double figures in batting in the second innings. Bannin, of Greytown, was in good form with the ball, and captured five wickets for the small cost of 9 runs. Workman also obtained a good analysis, his four wickets being obtained at a cost of 14 runs. Greytown's batting, in their second effort, was again disappointing. Fifty-five runs for h first eleven, on the Oval wickets, against Juniors are not meritorious. Edwards, for the local team, must have been in good form with the ball, capturing two wickets like Hawke and Balfour without a run being scored oft him. Holden again bowled splendidly by taking 5 wickets for 12 runs.
