A Regrettable Contretemps.
Sympathy of King and Queen with Distressed Unemployed.
(Received To-day, at 5.37 a.m.) London; Last Night. When opening the new thoroughfares,
Way and Aldwych, King Edward an address from the Poplar Municipality.
Replying, the King reEerred to tho local unemployed question, ne staled that he and the Queen had heartfelt sympathy for the suffering wives and children of the workless. Great enthusiasm was displayed throughout the ceremony, and a special welcome was accorded to the French visitors. King Edward shook hands with them. Six declined to do so for political reasons. Le Temps censures their rudeness adding: —
" The Anglophobes ought to have remembered before crossing the Channel that London County Councillors aro as English as King Edward."
The new thorough fares cost over six
