TE NUI NOTES.
(Sjjecial to Daily Times.) It is with great sorrow that I have to announce the death of James Dickens, a young man twenty years of age, who died at the home of his parents on Saturday last, after an illness of about six weeks, borne with great patience. He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs AA r . Dickens, of Manawa, who have the sincere sympathy of a very large circle of friends. Deceased was a steady, industrious young fellow, and his early death is sincerely regretted by all who knew him. The funeral took place on Sunday last, and was very largely attended by people from all over the district. The first part of the service was held in the Church of the Good Shepherd, when the hymns, "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," and "Peace, Perfect Peace, in this Dark AA 7 orld of Sin," were feelingly sung. A short address was _ delivered by the Rev. J. H. Sykes, who coivdA ducted the service. The Te Nui Court Foresters, of which he was a member, attended in their official capacity. There was a large number of beautiful wreaths. Invitations are out for a Shepherds' Ball, plain and fancy dress, to be held on Friday next, the 20th inst. It is being looked forward to with much interest by a large number of young people. Mr J. C. Cooper, who is opposing Mr A. W. Hogg as a candidate for Parliamentary honours, addressed the electors in the Town Hall, Te Nui, on Saturday last. Mr AA r . Dalziell occupied the chair. The night was very rough and cold, but there was a good attendance. Mr Cooper received a patient hearing, being frequently applauded. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously.
