The Mikado's remarkable rescript thanked tSk'-s army and navy for their unprecedented vkt_i?s, which had realised to the full the purposes of the war. It expressed profound sympathy with the sufferers, yet reminded them that the Heaven-sent duties owing to their ancestors and nation had been well discharged.
