Wellington Sheepskin and Hide
Sales.
Murray, Roberts and Co. report: At our sale, held on Friday, there was good competition for sheepskins, and prices show no material change from last sale. A few small lots of wool and crutchings were also catalogued, for which current rates were well maintained. We quote: Wool —Crossbred (oddments), Sd to 9id per lb ; dead wool, 7d to 8:] cl; crutchings (good), 7d to 7jjcl; crutchings (inferior), 5.U1 to 6.M ; locks and pieces, 3kl to s|d. Skins—Merinos and halfbreds, 7M to 9d ; fine crossbreds, BJd to 9d; crossbreds (medium to coarse), 8d to S|d ; crossbreds (inferior pelted), 6;] dto ; dead and hoggets, 6M to ; lambs (woolly), 7d to Sj-d ; butchers' green, 6s 6d to 8s each. Hides—Heavy ox, 4|cl to SJ-d per lb ; medium ox, 4£d to sd; light ox, id to 4|d; cow (heavy), 4d to 4;|d ; cow (medium), 4|d to 4. ; jd ; cow (light), 4}d to od; dry, o{-d to 6yd. Calfskins—Sound, 5d to 6|d*; damaged," 3id to 4Jd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report as follows :—We offered to a good attendance of buyers about 700 skins, 280 hides and calfskins, and a quantity of wool, horsehair and tallow. Prices were well maintained, and everything was sold. At Friday's sale, all hides were sold at per pound, and this pracwill continue. We quote : Skins — epferino and balfbred 81d to 9d, fine crossBJd to 9d, coarse crossbred B]d to B'Jd, dead skins 6}d to 7|cl, inferior pelts and short wools 5d to green skins 5s 6d to 8s Id each. Hides—Cow (sound) 4|d to sd, cow (cut and slippy) 3id to ox (damaged) 3|d to ild, sound 5d to s id,calf from sdto 6]-d per lb; horsehair to Is 4d per lb, cow tails Is 4id per dozer., .tallow (in tins) 17s per cwt,
Messrs Dalgety and Co. report:—The following were prices realised: Wool — Selling at about last sale rates. Crossbred lleece 9dper lb, crutchings sjd to Gjd, dead 7id to Bd. Skins —Market slightly weaker. Good full wool crossbred, B;jd per lb, medium crossbred 7 ; jd to B]d, hoggets 7d to Sd, inferior Gd to 6.fd, dead 7-Jd to 8d ; horsehair, Is Id ; tallow (tins), 17s per cwt. Hides—These were sold at per lb for the first time; prices were fully equal to last sale rates. Heavy ox, 781b, 5d per lb ; medium ox, 491b, 4|d per lb; inferior ox. to 421b, 4d to 4-J-d ; cows, best, 401b to 461b, 4id to 4|d per lb ; inferior and slippy, 3£d to" 4|d ; calfskins, ; slippy, sgd.
