YAWNING AS AN EXERCISE.

There is one large section of the world's population which never gets sufficient sym pathy or encouragement, and the " bored " are too often left to their own devices to invent for themselves new forms of self-torture. They will welcome with avidity a theory which, according to an American contemporary, has lately been started in Germany. In the opinion of a German professor of gymnastics there is nothing to equal whole-hearted yawning as an inexpensive and certain means of securing perfect health. But yawning to fulfil this object is a science to be studied seriously, not a pleasant relaxation for the moments when one has nothing to do, and the mere fact that to enable it to succeed as a reserve tonic it must be persisted in regularly will rob it of four-lifths of its charm in the eye of habitual yawners. The deep inhalations must perforce be accompanied by stretching of the arms and back, and the expansion of the chest and relaxing of the muscles are said to work wonders on the general health, if the process is presevercd in for any length of time.
