DEATH IN THE BUSH.

Two lads whilst out in the bush at the Upper Hutt on Sunday found in a clearing the dead body of a man lying face downwards. Near-by was a hut, which was supposed to havo been unoccupied for two years. The lads found a pair of men's boats in the hut, and observed that a sheet of iron near the body had been on the hut, and in all probability had been blown off by the wind. From all appearances tho man had been dead some two or three months.

No information is to hand as to the identity of deceased or the cause of death. There are four men reported as missing, and it is quite possible that deceased is one of these. A married man named A. J. Barnard, a farmer by occupation, disappeared from Pahiatua on the 16th March, and was last seen at Petone on the 20th of the same month; on the 26th May a married man named Digby Hunt was missed from Tasman-street; on the 26th June a man named Ernest Schweitasch, a working jeweller, disappeared from Wellington; and on the 28th June W. Johnston, employed in an engineering establishment was missed from Dixon-street. It was thought that Johnston was the man found drowned in the harbour on Friday, but subsequent witnesses wore able to give information which indicated that the body was not that of Johnston. Post.

[The body has since been identified as that of Anthony John Barnard, aged 39, who disappeared from his home at Pahiatua on March 16th. ]
