SOCIALISM BROUGHT HOME.
A Simple Illustration in the
Wanganui District.
Recently a well-known settler managed to convey an effective lesson to an assistant who had shown a tendency towards .socialism. The employe had been arguing on the injustice of some men obtaining £1000 a year or more for their work, and others only earning £100 or less. Like a wise man the employer said nothing fill shearing was over. The employe who is an exceptionally good shearer, and shorn a few hundred more sheep than his companions, and the employer, before paying for the work, remarked that as according to las theory all. men were equal and of equal worth ho intended to divide equally the total amount earned by the shearers. It is almost needless to say that the employe mado energetic and effective protest agaiast this practical application of socialistic theory. Socialism appears to be all right when " the other fellow " has the greater share.
