Burgess failed to swim across the English Channel. He was afloat twelve hours. He got within four miles of Calais. Miss Annette Kellerman states that her Wednesday's swim was only practice. She will make an attempt to swim across within a fortnight.
The signalman admits that he caused the Hall-road accident by an error in signalling[An electric express train travelling from Liverpool to Southport, at a rate of fifty miles an hour, collided with an empty train at Hall-road Station. Twenty persons were killed, and several injured.]
