TYPHOID AT AN ASYLUM.

» .— \By Telegraph — Association} Auckland, Yesterday. The Coroner (Mr Graham) held an inquest yesterday at Avondalc Asylum on a male patient. Evidence was given by Dr H. Barraclough that a post mortem examination disclosed that death was due to typhoid fever. He attributed the presence of typhoid to the fact that a block had taken place in the drains, a defect which had been remedied. The jury brought in a verdict of death from typhoid fever, and added the following, rider :- " The jury requests the Coroner to convey to the Inspector of Public Works their regret that at a public institution like Avondato Asylum such a disease as typhoid should have been allowed to germinate in consequence of the careless blockage of a drain,"
