It rained heavily during the whole of the afternoon, and it speaks well for the enthusiasm of the two teams on the grand old game of cricket, that they should defy the elements on Saturday. The umpires, Rev. l>. J. Murray and Mr W. H. Gahvey, kept at their posts during the game, and their decisions gave entire satisfaction.

The batting of the local team was an improvement on the previous Saturday's form. l>r McKibbin, who was top scorer with 34 to his credit, batted steadily for his runs, and he would have materially increased his score if he had been stronger on the leg side. Jones showed first-clnss cricket in compiling his runs, and was scoring freely when he ran himself out. Parton, McKellar and Perry shaped well, the first named making some nice leg glances. Although the Masterton bowlers were ■j|||txt a disadvantage in handling the wet ■Wball, the Greytown team were in a worse plight in having to bat on a bad wicket, in a failing light. Most of the batsmen went in to hit, and F. Hawke knocked up his twenty runs by free hitting, and the same may be said of Ticehurst. Leppin was the best of tbe Greytown bowlers, keeping a fair length, and occasionally getting a lot of work on the ball. Logan and Dr. McKibbin bowled splendidly for Masterton, the former coming out with the fine analysis of five wickets for 23 runs.

McKellar and Parton each brought off a good catch, the former when he dismissed F. Hawke, and the latter when he dismissed H. Hawke.

On Saturday next, tbe Masterton I. play Carterton 1., at Carterton. The Masterton Juniors will, od the same day, commence their first match on the Park Oval.
