EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council was held on Saturday. Present: Crs F. C. Tumor (chairman), E. 0. F. yon Reden, Dawson, T. Moss, B. Morris, D. Pitcaithley and F. Dowsett.

The Finance Committee reported a credit balance to County Fund of _26"49 4s 5d ; to Government Loans Account of £5S 16s Id. Accounts amounting to ,£154 Is lid were recommended for payment.

The Clerk reported that a claim for £5o 17s 2d had been made on the Masterton County, being 2-7ths of the total expenditure of this Council on the Eke-tahuna-Te Nui-road. Hypothecated thirds, 6s 7d, have been received from the Valuer-General. The rate demands for 1904 1905 will be issued in about a fortnight. The Treasury reports that the money is now available for the Central Mangaone road East Loan of £150. No word has yet been received from the Treasury re* the approval of the Mangatainoka River Suspension Bridge Loan. The report was adopted. A deputation, on behalf of the settlers, consisting of Messrs Tumor and Twentyman, waited on the Council re the very bad stat3 of their road at Hukanui. If the road was not soon attended to, they were afraid they would have to sell their cows. The sawmillers were cutting up the road very badly.—Resolved to attend to the worst part as soon as pojsiole. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr W. Crocker applied to be allowed to use a brake, one of the tyres of which was onc-eightb of an inch less than provided by the by-law.—Resolved to reply that the Council had no power to grant permission.

From Health Officer, reporting a case of measles; also one of scarlet fever and one of scarletina.

From Wesleyan Church, asking for part of the road in front of the church to be metalled and the footpath formed. —Resolved to grant the request.

From Mr C. E. Daniell, stating that the shifting of the building from Mainstreet to Newman-road had not damaged the road. He had not intended to be discourteous to the Council.

From the Eoads Department, Nireaha-road maintenance.

From Mr Page, re a complaint of Mr Thomasen at last meeting ; also enclosing a statement that Mr Thomasen did not impute any wrong action to the Hanger (Mr Ure).

From Messrs A. Harrison, J. J. Thomaseu. A. Morgan and Pallant, Kaiparoro, stating that a settler made constant use of the road for his cows, From Mr C. E. Daniell, asking permission to lay 4in. drains under the footpath at Mr Hollings' new brick buildings. From Mr A. Webb, Hukanui, stating that his road was in a bad state through the Council carting gravel over it. It had had nothing spent on it for two years. The Overseer reported that a fair amount had been spent on the road last year. From Mr F. White, Pah Valley, re slips on the road. —Referred to Overseer. From Masterton County, re heavy traffic license fees. From Hukaunui School Committee,

that they intended to compel the Council gL ■ to take storm-water off their property. Wr The Overseer's report was read and adopted. RESOLUTIONS. That the Clerk write to Mr Udy, asking him to renew the bridge broken down by a tree falling from his land. Piesolved to spend money available on estimates on the Parkville Central-road. Mr A. Vile mentioned that the ratepayers were asking what wa3 being done in the question of drainage.

Pvesolved to ask the petitioners to meet the Chairman and Cr yon Rcden at 2 o'clock, on Thursday week.

A notica of motion to rescind a previous resolution to summon all owners of straying pigs, and substitute one to consider each one ou it 3 merits, was lost.

Notice of motion was given to buy two more horses as leaders.

Tbe Chairman reported result County Conference at Masterton.

Piesolved that the poundkeeper's services be dispensed with. Mr McDonald was appointed in his place.
