FOOTBALL.
The British Team.
To=day's Match
{By Telegraph — Press Association),
Auckland, Last Night
In the selection of the British team for Saturday's match O'Brien will b9 put full-back instead of StangerLeathes, and Morgan three-quarter instead of O'Brien. It is doubtful if Swannell will be able to play among the forwards ; otherwise the team will probably be the same as in the Taranaki match.
The British team were officially welcomed by the Mayor this morning. Bedell-Sivright, the captain, in replying, said the team had not come to teach New Zealanders how to play football—in tact they could teach them very little.
The Wanganui papers thus report the accident to the player " Paddy" McMinn, in the match at New Plymouth : —" Play was stopped for a while owing to an accident to McMinn, who was playing a sterling game. It was found that his knee was hurt rather badly, and he was carried to the tent by two of the Britishers, who were vociferously cheered for their sportsmanlike spirit."
Says another paper : —" The loss of McMinn's services at a critical juncture in the game was a severe facer for the local team. With about fifteen minutes to go, it was hard luck to lose such a good front ranker."
