The N.Z. Times' , special reporter, writiug I'com Auckland yesterday, has the following:—None of the visitors can understand the excitement of the people all over the colony, Mr O'Brien, the manager, says nothing approaching it took place in the Old Country, not even at the great International games.

The city is full of strangers, and they are still eoiniug in hundreds by coaches, trains and steamers.

The Britishers leave for Rotor.ua on Saturday night, and arrangements are being made for a match there on. Monday morning between them and a Maori fifteen. On Monday night they leave Auckland for Sydney. Mr O'Brien, the manager, does not accompany them. He will spend a short time with his people in Canterbury before returning to the Old Country. It is his intention not to play football again after to-morrow's match.

They Britishers are getting very tiied of so many matches, and at their request, only one game will be played on their return to Australia, and will be against combined New South Wales and Queensland, on the 27th inst. The original programme was for three matches.

Heavy showers have been falling for the past two or three days, and to night the rainfall has increased.

The first interprovincial match under Australian rules in New Zealand takes place to-day at Newtown Park, between Canterbury and Wellington. Both teams have been in active training for some time past, and a good exposition of the Australian game is expected. Considerable interest is being taken in the fixture.

The following team will represent the Masterton Tailors and Bootmakers against the Wellington Tailors, to be played at Lansdowne on Thursday next, August 25th:— Jackson, Temple, Williams, Fellingham, Finlayson, Webb, Carpenter, Rains, Chapman, Aldridge, Dixon, Rodgers, Henry and McHattie. Members are requested to attend a meeting in the Empire Hotel on Monday, 22nd August, at 7.30 p.m.
