CRIME IN AUCKLAND.
A Judge's Strong Comments
{By Telegraph — Press Association), Auckland, This Day.
At the Supreme Court, a youth named Wm. Meek, who was charged with perjury while defending himself in the Lower Court against a charge of assau'ting a constable, was found not guilty. Judge Edwards said he regarded the verdict as a very grave miscarriage of justice. For the safety of the general community he hoped that such an injustice would never be repeated.
Three men, named respectively Highway, Taylor and Johnston, were charged to-day with being concerned in thefts from the General Post Office. The cases were adjourned for a week, as Highway proposed to plead guilty.
