A FLOATING VICARAGE.

A Novel Idea.

Speaking at Hokianga, the other day, the Anglican Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Neligan) referred to the great difficulty experienced by clergymen in a district so peculiarly situated as Hokianga, owing to its large extent and the facs that ie waa intersected by tidal rivers. The Bishop submitted a proposal for the establishment of a floating vicarage in the shape of a suitably-built oil launch, properly equipped and furnished to accommodate two men, who could regularly visit the three hundred miles of river frontage at a minimum of cost. The archdeacon of the district, and visiting clergymen at the recent Synod, and many of the settlers, had heartily approved of the proposal, and the vestry had guaranteed £QQ towards the carrying out of such a scheme. The launch and the fittings w(*| estimated to cost about MOO. Thi_f.it was anticipated, would be raised in "the district, together with the stipend of the clergymen. The settlers present at the gathering recognised the scheme to be a very practical one.
