Annual Meeting.

' The annual meeting of the Masterton Golf Club was held in the Techuical School, yesterday afternoon. There were about twenty members present-, and Mr Donald Donald occupied the chnir. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented and adopted. The matter of the Club purchasing the freehold of sufficient grjund for golf links, instead of leasing as at present, was brought up by the Chairman. He stated that he had spoken to Mr Williams, and he had reason to believe that they could purchase about thirty acres at £80 per acre. The Club could make a deposit of £100, and issue debentures for the balance, which would be readily taken up. The area could be fenced, and let at £1 per acre per annum for sheep Grazing. A dam could be put in to ensu%a plentiful supply of water. A Committee, consisting of Messrs D. Donald, H. Holmes, W. P. James and G. C. Summerell were appointed to go into the general matter of acquiring sufficient freehold land for golf links, and report to a meeting of the general committee.

The opening day for the season was fixed for April 16th. Messrs C. C. Cox, N. D. Banting and G. C. Suinmerell were appointed a committee to revise the Club rules and get them printed. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Secretary for the excellent service he had rendered to the Club in the past.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows :— President, Mr H. G. Williams (re-d c:ed); Vice-presid-ents, Messrs H. Holmes and H. H. Beetham (re-elected); Captain, Mr N. Beetham (re-elected), General Committee, Messrs Donald Donald, W. P.James, Y. E. Donald, G. C. Summerell, J. A. Sellar, D. Caselberg and N. D. Bunting ; Ground Committee, Messrs W. P. James, D. Donald and V. E. Donald ; Handicapping and Selecting Committee, Messis C. C. Cox, V. E. DonaLlauu J. A. Seilir; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Mr C. C. Cox (re-elected). Following is the annual report, " March 25ch, 1904. In presenting the annual balanca - sheet and report the Committee have pleasure in congratulation members on the healthy state of the Club's affairs. The present membership of the Club is: Ladies 80, men 52, considerable increase on the previous year. References to the balance-sheet will show that after wiping out a deficiency of £1 8s 3d, outstanding from last year, effecting improvements to the golf*house at a cost of 10-, and the expenditure of £10 17s 4d, on the upkeep and improvement of the greens, we have a credit balance of £9 1«, which can be considered most satisfactory. During the season three matches against the Club were played, but we were unsuccessful in each instance. A programme of Club events was arranged and played off during the season, the interest of the game being thereby greatly increased. The Ladies' Championship was won by Miss Bead, Mrs Norman Beetham being runner-up ; Mr J. O. Bidwill won the Men's Cham pionship, Mr V. E. Donald being second. During the past season trophies were kindly presented to the Club by the following:- Mr H. Holmes, for Ist and 2nd places in Ladies' Championship; Messrs H. H. Beetham and Norman Beetham for Ist and 2nd places in Men's Championship; Messrs D. Donald and J. D. Smith for other matches. The Committse wish to convey their thanks to Mr H. G. Williams (President), for kindly allowing the Club the usa of a and roller; and also to Mr V. E. Donald for presenting the Club with two seats for use at the golf house." The balance-sheet showed the total income from members' subscriptions to be JM9 12s 6d, and disbursements £4.0 11s 6d, leaving a credit balance of .£9 Is.
