CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Our bowlers are somewhat crestfallen this morning, at the severe beating the Masterton trundlers gave them yesterday. It was quite understood that we should beat your men with fair ease, for had we not been to Rotorua and played with the crack bowlers of the colony ? Alas for the matability of human affairs ! That blessed green of yours was too tricky for us! As far as play went, why we were miles ahead of you ! But your green, ■don't you know, was so erratic, and you _eat us by forty odd. Never mmd, we are coming up " for the ashes" next year. It is stated that Mr F. Feist is a likely candidate for the Carterton Mayoralty.

The Borough authorities are busy putting the roads in order for the winter. They are in fair condition now, and if the metalling and clearing watertables are done before the wet weather arrives, we shall have a chance of starting the winter with roads in better order than we have done for some years past, as we shall be getting the benefit of past work, topped up with the present year's repairs done at the right time.

The Wairarapa South County meeting will take place to-morrow.
