ALLEGED BETTING FRAUDS.

The Recent Turf Scandal.

The case against John Ewing Walker, charged on several counts with attempting to defraud various bookmakers, was further considered by the Wellington S.M. on Saturday. On Friday evening the hearing of the informations against defendant was adjourned, in order to allow accused's solicitor to bring authorities in support of his contention regarding what constituted the grounds for sending an accused person for trial. After hearing counsel in Walker's defence His Worship said he had come to the conclusion that there was not a prima facie case against him. The evidence was only inferential, and under the circumstances he felt justified in dismissing the charges.— N.Z. Times.
