THE NEW ZEALAND DEATH.

A Maori named Ngawai Eakau, aged about 30, was drowned in the sea near the mouth of the Waitara Kiver yesterday morning. He was swimming with Other Natives when he suddenly disappeared. It is supposed a shark attacked him. Thames, This Day. Edward Aifred Clark, a middle-aged man, was drowned while crossing the Kaueranga Eiver near Thames to-day with his brother. Owing to the heavy rains the river was flooded, and at the place where Clark crossed the water was up to the saddle-flaps. Deceased's brother was ahead, and he looked back only to see the horse and rider struggling in the rushing water. The horse returned to the land with the girths broken, but Clark was swept to the rapids and drowned. A search was at once made for the body, but it has not jet been recovered.
