Lord Tennyson's Successor. Lord Northcote Appointed. (Received To-day, at 11.24 a.m.) London, August 7. Lord Northcote will succeed Lord Tennyson as Governor-General of Australia in December. [Lord Henry Stafford Northcote is in Ms forty-seventh year. He is the second sun of the First Earl of Iddesleigh. He was Private Secretary to Lord Salisbury in J876-7; Financial Sooretary to the War iSffice in 1885-6; Surveyor-General of the Ordnance in 1886-7. He sat for Exeter in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1899; and in 1900 was appointed Governor of Bombay. He was created a Baronet in 1887, G.C.I.E. He was elected District Grand Master of the Freemasons of Bombay in 1901.]
