A correspondent writes in the Taranaki Herald: —Unknown to most of the residents of New Plymouth, there lives a plucky little lady mountaineer, whose deeds have just now come to light. The young lady, who is a member of the Civil Service, undertook one Saturday! recently the almost impossible task of climbing the Sugar-loaf, Paritutu, from its seaward side. This is well-known to the adventurous to be a climb that few indeed over havo accomplished, and the majority of people are generally perfectly satisfied with the ordinary pathway, which evidently had too little scope for excitement, for this lady. Accompanied (against his will, perhaps) by a gentleman, she succeeded in performing this perilous feat. To the few who have attempted this and succeeded, it will be evident that no small praise is due to the fair climber; a cool head, a steady hand and splendid nerve are absolutely necessary, but even then a loose stone, a crumbling rock, or insecure tuft of grass may bring disaster, but happily this was not so, and the young lady is to be congratulated for successfully performing this dangerous climb.
