{By Telegraph—Press Association) Asheurton, This Day. To-day the no-. ,- .cense regime begins for three years, the licenses having lapsed o'clock last night. Although a nutnber of peoplo were about the F streets and frequenting hotels last night, nothing out of the ordinary occurred, and tho polico cells were without an occupant. During the evening, the railway refreshment rooms' lessee received a telegram from the Colonial Secretary, instructing him to close the bar without fail that night, and the inst,. actions were complied with. The Ashburton Club manager also received a wire from the Colonial Secretary revoking its charter. A meeting of the executive of tho Club was at once held, and it was decided to close the bar and continue to so I ', liquor in tho club rooms in order to test the right of the Colonial Secretary to revoke the charter whioh was granted in 1886.
