" The Lady of Ostend," which has been selected to open the second season of the Hawtrey Comedy Company at the Town Hall, on Thursday night, is a comedy, which, has been highly commended by the critics. It has been re : marked of the play that the laughter it engenders does not come in fits and starts, but commences at the rise of th§ curtain and continues to the very end of the piece, when an ingenious climax enforces a perfect storm of laughter and applause. " The Lady " had a long run at Terry's Theatre, London, and the play has met with equal success during the past 12 months iv this part of the world. In addition to Burnand's threeact farcial comedy, ''The Lady of Ostend," a charming playlet, entitled " Counsel's Opinion," by Frederick Bingham, will be presented as a *> curtain-raiser." At the recent Mel. bourne season of the company this pretty comedietta met with much favour. ablo criticism. The leading role is taken by a juvenile aged 10 (Alaster Persy Corke). The box-plan ia now "A Alessage from Mars," so membered and greatly appreciate*! locally, will be staged on Friday night.
