N.uikh, This Dny,
With regard to tho unfortunate fatality, by which Arthur Wellington lost his life, it appears that no one witnessed tho occurrence, but from particulars which arc asccrtainablc, it scorns that tho locomotive, with truck attached, was in the vicinity of the water-tank, and the driver was looking out at his sidoof the enginecab. His attention was attracted by tho truck "jumping," and looking quickly round ho discovered that his mate, Wellington, was not in his accustomed place. Immediately afterwards tho deceased was found lying on tho rails. It was apparont that tho wheels had gone over his legs and the lower part of the body. Whon picked up Wellington was still alive. Ho was placed on the train with tho object of bringing him to tho Napier Hospital, but when Hastings was reached, ho succumbed. Tho body was brought on to Napier. "Whether Wellington slipped of! the engine, was knocked off by any outsido obstacle, or had got off in connection with his work is not known. An oflicial inquiry will be held today.
