STRANGE SHOOTING INCIDENT.

A sensation was caused in town late last night by a shooting case. A young man named Michael Whelan, on reaching home, was seized round the neck by a man. They struggled for a while when his assailant drew a revolver and shot him on the left side of the head.
Whelan then released his hold, and the man ran away. Tho victim shouted for help and two constables took him to tho police station. When found the bullet had inflicted a sovore scalp wound. He lost a considerable amount of blood, and the doctors state he has had a narrow escape. Whelan was to havo been married to-day.
