Tho nine surveyors, selected by the New Zealand Government,at the request of the Imperial authorities, for work on the Gold Coast, West Africa, loft Wellington this morning for Auckland, from whence they take their departure on Friday by tho Ventura. The road-grader, recently ordered by tho Masterton County Council through the firm of Messrs Booth, McDonald and Co., (Mr J. C. Ewington local agent) has come to hand, and was to-day put together by Mr Ewington. Tho machine, which has been purchased at a cost of .£9O, is an Austin reversible road-grader and is stated to bo admirably adapted for the work required. It haslicen proved to bo an economise!" in regard to road formation, road-maintenance or drain-cleaning, and it is very serviceable where the "shoulders" of roads havo to be removed, the work being done at a cost of between £1 and £1 10s per mile. Mr and Mrs Henning, travelling on their locomobile, arrived in Wellington, safely. They had rather a trying experience on tho Rimutaka, in the teeth of a north-west gale, but the machine stood tho test remarkably well. Crossing an unbridged creek at Kaitoke, the motor jammed among the boulders, and thou threatened to float down stream. Mr Henning had to jump out and clear a road for his. vehicle. It will bo remembered that this machinery for blowing tho organ by waterpower is to the Parishioners' Memorial of King Edward Vll.'s Coronation; but, as there is still <£10 wanted to meet tho cost of the apparatus, an entertainment will be given in St. Matthew's Schoolroom, to-night week, to meet the deficit. The Vestry wore in the proud position, at the completion of the organ, to pay cash for it, and it is hoped the parishioners will enable then? J.n do tho same for tho present improvement.
