k Proposal to Improve Iti JfCr Hollings introduced the question of improving the Mastcrton Public Library at last evening's meeting of the Jiorougii Council. He stated that Cr Jackson and himself were appointed to get gentlemen outside of the Council to act as a selection committee to select new books, but it was difficult to socra anyone who would consent to act on the committee. A good suggestion made to him was to the effect that the subscribers should be allowed to appoint their own committee from among themselves, and the Count" to elect a Councillor to preside over the committee, who would have the power of vetoing any proposal ho thought proper to receive direction from the Council. Cr Hollings considered that if the suggestion was adopted good results 1 would be accomplished. The subscribers who took an interest h the library would exercise sufficient care to see that only the best gentlemen available to /ill the positions would be appointed. The prescntstatcof the library wasunsatisfiictory and the proposal would tend to improve it- Cr Hollings moved that the subscribers to the' iiuutry elect a committee of six, the librarian to be included, who will act in conjunction with a Covicillor, by the Council, and who will The motion was carried, and it was also resolved to refer the election of the committee to thd Library Connrttce,
