CARTERTON NOTES.
{From Our Own Correspondent!. Friday. A farm laborer, named Gilchrist, employed on Clay's farm was brought up yesterday before Messrs flish and LindopJ's.P., charged with assaulting Hdwiird Clay, farmer, aged eighty years, and threatening with a knife anil poker. He was convicted and sentenced to (wo months' hard labour and fined t's and costs CI Ills liil. Tn default of payment, a further sentence of two months' hard labor. The offence look place on Christmas Day, drink being the cause.
Yesterday morning the Mayor (MrG. W. Dcllcr) and a number of our townsmen and settlers, left by the train to attend the opening of the Ngnliaiiranga Fellmongery Works. About thirty-live tons of cheese left the Carterton aad Dalolicld stations this morning for Wellington for shipment lo London in the "Delphic" which sails on the lllhiiist.
